Pavlov's rats

I got a chinkly bracelet for Christmas and I have discovered that the rats love the sound of it. So I have started using it to try and train them to come to me, by giving them food immediately after jangling it. It's funny though but now, every time I jangle it Baldrick starts licking his lips like mad - it's really funny to watch.
He had us laughing over the weekend. We were feeding him and Hobbes crisps. Baldrick loved the crisps but he's a hoarder - so he kept jumping to the other sofa (where Hobes can get to because of his poor eyesight) and 'hid' them on a cushion. He then came bounding straight back to me. What he didn't realise was that as he was running back to me, Si was passing his crisp back to me and I was giving it to him again. Then Baldrick kept repeating the process, clearly thinking that he was building up a nice little stash of secret crisps. The funny thing was his enthusiasm - each time he was getting more and more excited, obviously thinking of the pile of goodies he had waiting for him. He kept bouncing like a little rabbit with his head held high, to stop him from tripping over his food. He did this about thirteen times without stopping. Poor, stupid little muppet, didn't even realise 'til the end that he only had one crisp. the look on his little face when it dawned on him...
I had a great Christmas - was spoiled rotten with Michael palin DVDs, a really funny book, jewellry, The Phantom cd, and a really fab digi camera from Si which I'm planning to use to kick start my photography hobby again (uh, durr!) Bought a memory card from Dixons for £22 - 256mb (approx 400 pic capability). Bargain!

Nightmare
12.23.04 (2:10 am) [edit]
Well, what a few days! I had a call from my letting agent yesterday. She left a message on my answer phone, which I didn't get until lunchtime. Basically, the flat above mine had flooded, the water had come down into my flat and flooded the flat below me! The water had got into the fire alarm, making that go beserk, and so the fire brigade had come 'round and bashed my door in. I had to go home and guard my property as we didn't have much of a door to speak of anymore. There was water everywhere in the kitchen and front room - the bucket collecting drips from the ceiling is still there! The carpets are soaked, the walls look a bit iffy and we've only had our door replaced this morning. I've had to take another day off to sort everything out - I thought they'd be finished now but it's 12.30 and they're still going strong. Sigh. What a carry on. The guys at work were really kind about it - I appreciate that loads. One less thing to worry about. I think I've got as much of the water up as I can now. I'm going to have to pop to the shops to get a new key cut for the door. Two days 'til Christmas. Well, it could have been a lot worse.

Half-lit hero
12.14.04 (2:53 am) [edit]
I wrote this poem a few years ago. War poetry of the 1st W.W. is something I love. This poem has appeared on my poetry webpage on www.allpoetry.com but I don't use the name shamisen
In fading gloam sits the half-lit hero, The curl of stale smoke sliding from bloodied lips, And the multidunous sins spilt in a greying morning Stains fingers grimey with heart-warm blood.
"It was brighter today" runs the worn-out banter, Souls dying each day that they wake to the mud, Creeping back to their shells which so bitterly offer A fragile protection, projection of war.
Grey faces unblemished by the horrors of love, Or money, those petty diversions of youth. Instead is the screaming that weeps through the dark, And the peppering roar of destructable troops.

Poor Derfel
12.13.04 (3:44 am) [edit]
|
My little Derfel's not been so well over the weekend. Stitch and Bronte bundled him while he was eating and he started choking and struggling to breathe. Luckily that's happened before, with Bronte, so I knew what to do. I gave him cuddles to calm him down, then I rubbed the back of his neck and stroked his throat until he vomited - all over me. Considering rats aren't supposed to be able to vom... He was a bit tearful afterwards and was desperate for lots of cuddles, which is unlike him because he's not really a cuddly rat. He prefers just to do his own thing. Stitch and Bronte like sitting on my shoulder and playing around me, but they don't go for cuddles much either. And Baldrick is like a little boy - he loves playing and being silly but he always keeps checking over to make sure I'm watching, and if I'm not he'll run up to me to make sure i'm paying attention. Only Hobbes loves his cuddles - he was licking my hand while I stroked him for 15 mins the other day, purring all the time.
went to see 'The Phantom of the Opera' on Saturday. It was fantastic. I really loved it and want to go and see it again. The phantom is soooo sexy - is it wrong of me to want Si to wear a mask and cape at all times now? I love brooding gothic men, with their turmoil and surpressed emotions. Swoon.

were very well behaved. They've gone home now and I miss them loads but we had a good weekend, they didn't bitch about house/hair/weight and they were very generous and cuddly. We went to Covent Garden, Harrods, Oxford Street and Piccadilly, then Bromley on Sunday. They also left a big heap of Christmas Presents and I've only opened one of them!!

No, not a porno-posting but a brief 'aaaaargh' at the idiots at my water board and electricity board who insist in sending us final demands and crapola like that for bills outstanding on accounts that have nuffin to do with us. Just been on the phone to my letting agent after getting a letter from London energy about cutting our electric off in the next week if we don't pay a bill that was in existence before we even effin' moved in!!!!
Rage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
